1983:Pine was the candidate of the local Liberal Association, who rejected Crawshaw, the official Alliance candidate.
1987:Fields was sentenced to 60 days imprisonment on 11th July 1991 for non-payment of the Community Charge (Poll Tax). Fields was leading a protest against the introduction of the tax, which he regarded as unjust.
1987-
1992:
Fields was accused in the summer of 1991 of links with the 'Revolutionary Socialist League', a group infiltrating the Labour Party under the name 'Militant tendency'. At a hearing on 5th December 1991 the allegations were found proved and he was expelled from the Labour Party, sitting in parliament as a 'Socialist Labour' representative. He sought election in 1992 as a 'Labour-Socialist' candidate, with funding from a number of local Trade Unions.

Notes:-
1991:Mahmood had unsuccessfully opposed Kilfoyle for the official Labour nomination when Eric Heffer, the previous member, announced his intention to retire at the next general election. When the by-election was caused by Heffer's death, she sought election as a 'Walton Real Labour' candidate, with backing from a number of local trade unions. She was a member of Liverpool City Council, and in the council she was a member of the 'Broad Left', a group of expelled Labour councillors who opposed the Labour leadership and advocated a more left-wing policy.

Lee-Delisle advocated a system of Proportional Representation for elections to the House of Commons. He sought election as a candidate of the 'George Lee-Delisle Party' which he had formed.
1992:Carson sought election as a 'Protestant Reformation Party' candidate.

Notes:-
1983:The candidature of P. Gallagher was disallowed by the returning officer. Gallagher, candidate of the British Movement, had attempted to seek election as a 'Labour' candidate; however, on investigation several of the signatures of electors in the constituency required to nominate a candidate were found to be invalid.
1992:Beasley had been the official Liberal Democrat prospective candidate for the seat until she was deselected after being charged with theft. She sought election as a candidate of the 'People's Party', which she had formed.

1983:Smith was the father of Helen Smith, a British nurse who died in mysterious circumstances in Saudi Arabia on 20th May 1979. He believed that the British authorities had covered up some details of the death in order to make it appear that his daughter had fallen to her death, when in fact she had been murdered. He was contesting the election in order to draw attention to the case and to protest against the attitude of Shaw who he believed accepted the cover-up.

Note:-
1992:Alford was a local Labour councillor who had been deselected by his Labour Party ward branch and had a number of disagreements with the Labour group on Slough Borough Council. He sought election as 'The Labour Candidate', and used the Labour Party's logo (a rose) on his election literature. Subsequently the Labour Party headquarters in Slough received a number of representations from electors who claimed to have cast their votes for Alford in error.

Smith advocated that the numbers of men and women in parliament should be equalised. She sought election as an 'Equal Representation in Parliament' candidate.

1983:After the final date for withdrawal of candidates, it was revealed that Finnegan had stood as the National Front candidate in Birmingham Erdington in both 1974 elections. As a result of this disclosure, several Conservative national figures cancelled visits to the constituency and a number of local Conservatives refused to campaign for him, though he remained an official candidate.

Fern sought election as a 'No Compulsion Campaign Freedom and Democracy' candidate.
