Note:-
2001:

The Conservative whip was suspended from Sayeed from 3rd February to 7th March 2005 after the House of Commons Committee on Standards and Privileges recommended that he be suspended from the service of the House. The Committee found that a company in which he had an interest had appeared to derive financial benefit from his offering tours of Parliament and risked damaging the reputation of Parliament.

The Committee issued a second report on 17th March 2005 criticising Sayeed for failing to apologise for his conduct as the first report had ordered, for sending out a circular on House of Commons stationery to members of the Mid Bedfordshire Conservative Association asking for their support in his reselection, and misuse of allowances to pay for work on his home. Following this report, the Conservative Party removed the whip from Sayeed permanently.

1997:Penhaul sought election as the candidate of 'Miss Moneypenny's Glamorous One Party'.

Bishop sought election as 'Lord Byro vs. the Scallywag Tories'.

Price sought election as the candidate of the 'Juice Party'.
2001:Allinson was sponsored by the Tatton Group, which had been formed by activists in the constituency in order to nominate an independent candidate who could contest the election after the retirement of Bell. The Tatton Group was opposed to United Kingdom membership of the European Union.

Hunt was the author of the book 'Trial by Retribution' which argued that Neil Hamilton, the former MP for the constituency who had been defeated in 1997, had not engaged in alleged corrupt activities which the House of Commons Commissioner for Standards had found proved. He sought election in order to vindicate Hamilton's name in the eyes of his former constituents.

Notes:-
2001:Bell had been an Independent Member of the previous Parliament for the Tatton constituency but considered himself bound by a pledge to serve that constituency for only one term. In the run-up to the 2001 election he was invited to contested Brentwood and Ongar by a group formed by former members of Brentwood and Ongar Conservative Association who alleged that the Association had been infiltrated by the Peniel Pentecostal Church, an evangelical Church based in the constituency. Bell sought election as a candidate who would oppose corruption in public life.

Pryke sought election as an 'Independent Endeavour' candidate. He was headmaster of the Endeavour School in the constituency.

Bishop sought election as the candidate of the 'Church of the Militant Elvis Party'.

Appleton sought election as the candidate of the 'Ringing and Singing Party', which he had formed.
