material, and had no history in politics; he advocated a system of popular
voting based on computer terminals in electors' homes, which he described as
'Literal Democracy'. When the Liberal Democrats discovered his nomination,
they unsuccessfully sought an injunction at the High Court to disallow his
candidacy.
After the election the Liberal Democrat candidate lodged an election
petition on the basis that the nomination should not have been accepted. The
petition was dismissed.
