| Notes: |
1978- 1990: | The various Independent Resident candidates for this ward were opposed to further commercialisation of property in Mayfair. At the time of his election in 1978, Viner was Chairman of the Mayfair Residents Association. The Liberal Party, the Alliance, and the Liberal Democrats declined to oppose them and advised their voters to support them. |
|
1994- 1998: | Martindale had been reselected as Conservative candidate for the 1998 elections, but the whip was withdrawn from him in March 1998 as a result of his opposition to Conservative policy on licensing of sex establishments in the ward, and the rebuilding of Marshall Street Baths. The removal of the whip prevented him from being an official candidate, and prompted the resignations of several of his supporters from the Ward Committee. It also prompted Avery's decision not to seek re-election. |
